Collaboration with J.L. Ramirez Architect and FAB314AW
Under construction, estimated completion: Q2 2025.
The Opal Residences, a 6-story multi-unit residence, located in Gravesend, is designed to cater to the elders of a tight-knit and lasting community in south Brooklyn. The ground-up building on Avenue U creates space that allows for an aging population to maintain proximity to their families and extended community nearby. Our design for the Opal Residences aims to bring a fresh aesthetic to weave into the diverse tapestry of South Brooklyn residential architecture, paying respect to the local architectural traditions while offering a new and complimentary chapter with our design.
The facade of the Opal Residences will be clad in Indiana limestone panels, organized in a classical grid yet shaped to form crisp modern edges, aiming to bridge architectural traditions and contemporary design qualities and expressions. The stone grid expresses the structural grid of the building, loosely follows the various interior programs, and transitions from at the ground-floor street interface to an elongated arrangement. The lobby will have a double height ceiling to create a grand entrance and features a lush interior, complete with travertine slabs on the floor and walls, with wood-veneer wall accents throughout. The use of natural materials both inside and outside aims to give the Opal Residences a timeless feel.
