Collaboration with K&Co
Completed, 2020.

Together with our frequent collaborator, k&co, the Pliskin Architecture (panyc) team has been working on renovating the public spaces of 10 Hanover Square in the Financial District, a mid-century commercial tower which originally housed offices and is now a high-end residential rental building. During its commercial past, the building was home to banking companies including Goldman Sachs, and our intervention aimed to identify, preserve, and celebrate shadows of these past activities, while introducing new elements to create a new experience as part of the entrance procession.

The design aims to give residents and guests an opportunity to experience the luster of the space – through the scale of the space, new lighting, and new furnishing. The lobby is designed to be grand and sparse in its layout, and layers new finishes next to existing materials, with the original granite and marble co-existing with new millwork, glass, and brass accents.

Within this intervention, special care was made to the lighting throughout the space. A series of k&co-designed custom light fixtures accompany the entrance procession, from the exterior canopy, to the lobby ceiling, and down the back wall of the lobby. Within the grandeur of the old bank lobby, the light fixtures personalize the space and break down its scale. The combination with the warm finishes and a large amount of dimmed lights creates an inviting ambiance that balances the grander of the lobby, bringing a gentle sparkle that helps soften and welcome residents and guests into the space.
