In collaboration with Ronny Quevedo, StudioDR, The Factory NYC, Kufferman Structures, and Scenic Art Studios
Completed, February, 2023.
Pliskin Architecture provided design assistance to artist Ronny Quevedo for his permanent artwork Pacha Cosmopolitanism Overtime, which was commissioned by Delta Air Lines in partnership with the Queens Museum. The colorful artwork, located in Terminal C at LaGuardia Airport, measures approximately 45 feet by 15 feet, and consists of a vertical gym floor with a constellation of painted and gilded linework.
Quevedo’s work explores ancient and personal trajectories of migration and displacement through mixed media and sculpture. The gymnasium flooring in Pacha Cosmopolitanism Overtime is a direct reference to soccer, the spirited games of Quevedo’s youth, and the thriving sports culture that connects travelers globally. The artwork is an homage to the diverse communities that call New York City home, honoring their resilience amid new and changing circumstances.
Pliskin Architecture’s role was to assure quality control, means of methods, and assist in achieving Quevedo’s artistic vision. The firm worked closely with Quevedo and his team to develop the artwork’s design and engineering, and to ensure that it was constructed to the highest standards. Panyc examined finish samples and construction methods at The Factory’s shop in Brooklyn and Scenic Art Studios shop in Newburgh. Pliskin Architecture also played a key role in coordinating the project with other stakeholders, such as Delta Air Lines and the Queens Museum.
