Manhattan Park Pool Club, Pop Up, New York, NY
Collaboration with K&Co
Annual Installation, 2015-present.
First conceived for the 2015 summer season, the K&Co and Pliskin Architecture designed annual summer pop-up for the Manhattan Park Pool Club, also dubbed MP Pool Party, is now in its 3rd year. Each year, the design team commissioned an 8,000sf mural from a different artist, with Minneapolis based street artist HOT TEA creating the 2015 installation, a 2016 by Wyoming artist Andrew Faris, and Gregg Emery creating the 2017 mural.
The client, Roosevelt Island Associates, together with of K&Co and Pliskin Architecture, is working on a larger remodel of the outdoor pool area and other public amenities at Manhattan Park, an 8.5 acre waterfront rental community located on Roosevelt Island in New York City. In parallel to the work on the units and public spaces at Manhattan Park, the design team proposed a temporary installation that would last for each pool season. The pop-up pool design features loungers, hammocks, beach-style lifeguard chairs, and other deck furniture, as well as other upgrades – all with an iconic, pop-art feel. The redesigned space features a pool deck mural allowing residents and visitors to be fully immersed in a painting, with each summer having its own unique signature.
