Cultural Center

Long Island, New York

Proposal, 2020.

In support of a non-for-profit group on Long Island, Pliskin Architecture (panyc) has been leading the design efforts associated with conversion of an abandoned theater into a cultural hub. This space will house various local activities and serve communities along Long Island’s North Shore. The goal of this adaptive reuse project is to draw in a wide range of constituents and support ongoing efforts to engage with different age groups.

The panyc team is working to highlight the rich history of the Cultural Center by celebrating the original structure and allowing it to shine through alongside the new programs in the building. By designing a modest insert comprised of light wooden structure, panyc seeks to hold a sense of transparency for the space allowing the historic building to remain in focus. This new intervention aims to add additional usable space throughout the building, accommodating a range of activities for use such as yoga classes, creative studios, craft workshops, performances, and exhibitions.
