Proposal, 2020.
Project team: Marie-Charlotte Lemoine, Nishant Jacob, Barak Pliskin

Located within the evergreen trees on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon, the panyc team’s proposal for the renovation of an existing single-family Vancouver home seeks to convert a beloved family space into an elegant contemporary house with a notable street presence and sleek interiors. Whether it is family time around the new fireplace, soaking in a hot tub on a balcony off the master bedroom, or practicing ballet with ample pacific northwest light, the house improvements bring new life and experiences to this family’s home for the last 15 years, and starts a new chapter in their life in the space.

The exterior of the Vancouver home is dressed in charred cedar in order to unify and accentuate the dynamic profile of the two adjacent roof profiles. The charred cedar are locally and sustainably sourced, and represent the clean and contemporary aesthetic that tracks through this intervention. The dark exterior is peeled back at certain instances to show moments of structure (roof beams) and use (windows, outdoor deck), which contrast the exterior expression of the home with lighter accents.
